Lila is a very special girl.  She can’t move or communicate like most children, but she finds ways to participate in all the things her peers do.  Lila’s main virtue is her imagination and pure heart. She always finds a way to keep her good spirits and inspire others. Do you want to know how Lila rides the bus, eats, or plays with her friends? The Adventures of Lila: A Quest for Friendship is a story of resilience, the power of love and the importance of inclusivity in every child's life. 

Based on the author's own daughter Lila, born with cerebral palsy, the story is a testament to a mother's love, a community of support and the extraordinary potential that lies within every child, regardless of their abilities.

​​Inspired by the friendships surrounding her daughter, Lila, who has cerebral palsy, Melissa wrote The Adventures of Lila to continue to promote inclusivity and friendship within the special needs community.  Lila, a nine-year-old, has inspired her community by creating an open, safe space for asking questions and sharing her story.  The Adventures of Lila spreads kindness, love, acceptance and inclusivity of wheelchair bound children. 
 
Melissa lives in Hopkinton, New Hampshire with her husband and their four children who range in age from one to nine. She is a Registered Nurse who works in pediatrics. Melissa enjoys caring for others and nurturing her children as well as her fur babies. Currently, she has a dog, four cats and eleven chickens.  The family loves to take day trips to the aquarium and they all love to swim!
