Dragonfly Magic is a delightful story that introduces children to philanthropy through the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) cycling event. Dragonfly Magic draws on author Clara Dowdle's childhood experiences with the PMC to illustrate how children, as well as adults, can undertake charitable endeavors.  Ultimately, Dragonfly Magic provides a way for children to appreciate kindness and the continuity of life.

Dragonfly Hope teaches children about the Pan-Mass Challenge Kids Rides Program.   A companion to Clara Dowdle's first children's book,  Dragonfly Magic – A Story about Helping Others and the PMC,  Dragonfly Hope enchants young readers with a tale about a dragonfly and her insect friends' determination to support the PMC's cancer-fighting effort.​

 Clara Dowdle is a native of Charlton, Massachusetts. Since 2013, Clara has fundraised for the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC), a philanthropy bike-a-thon that supports the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. With her philanthropy group, "The Daughters of Anarchy," Clara, along with her her sister and two best friends, has raised over $70,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. In 2015, Clara rode her first PMC Kids Ride (Uxbridge, MA). For the past two years, she has ridden 111 miles, from Sturbridge to Bourne MA, as an official PMC rider.

In 2024, Clara wrote and published her first children's book, Dragonfly Magic, so that children could learn about the Pan-Mass Challenge. In 2025, Clara published her second book, Dragonfly Hope, to teach children about PMC Kids Rides, bicycle safety and the importance of listening to your parents. All of Clara's book sales raise funds for the PMC and Dana-Farber.

​​On Sept. 20, 2025, Clara coordinated the first Quiet Corner Connecticut PMC Kids Ride for children ages 2-10 which raised over $13,000 to fight cancer. Currently, Clara is a senior at the Woodstock Academy in Connecticut where she is a varsity field hockey & lacrosse athlete and plays the violin & clarinet. A member of the Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots, Clara also possesses her student pilot's license and is working toward her first solo flight. In her free time, Clara enjoys spending time with her family and three Shih Tzu dogs as well as listening to music (especially Gracie Abrams & Taylor Swift). Clara hopes to continue spreading her love of community service with children in the future.
