​The Adventures of Peighten & Gingerbread is based on the relationship between the author and licensed therapist's oldest daughter, Peighten, and her late grandmother Robin, who passed away after her long battle with breast cancer. 

​Peighten and her sidekick puppy Gingerbread educate readers about cancer, death, and grief.  Children will be introduced to coping strategies to assist in their feelings of grief within the story and through the included therapeutic activity pages. ​

Feryn Heath, Author

​​Feryn Heath is a licensed therapist in the state of Arizona.  Professionally, she works in the field of addiction, specializing in working with individuals who process and/or substance abuse addictions.

​​ Feryn is mom to two young daughters and wanted to use her passion for writing to create a book series that they would enjoy, while also being able to use her therapy background to teach children coping skills. Grief and loss have left an imprint on her life through the loss of her only sibling, Justin in a commercial airline crash and through the loss of her parents, who both loss their individual battles with cancer. Feryn's goal for her first book is to provide children with knowledge about grief and loss while additionally providing them with therapeutic resources that can be implemented to assist with the pain that can accompany grief so that they are less likely to find themselves on the path of addiction.

​Message from the author:

"My children's picture book is written from the perspective of my oldest daughter, Peighten, looking at her experience of grieving the loss of my mom, who passed away from breast cancer. The beginning of the book has me as the mom character explaining to Peighten the terms grief, cancer, and death. The story then talks about Peighten's personal experiences with grief with altered emotions and nightmares. The story concludes with coping strategies utilized by Peighten to help her through her grief while also being able to remember her grandmother. At the end of the book is an included therapeutic workbook of activities for children to utilize to assist with their experienced grief, including art/craft activities, journal/writing/poetry prompts, sand tray prompts to be done with a licensed therapist, and movement with yoga poses." -Feryn Heath
