The Message of Monteverde

 When Loli, a very kind girl is frustrated with trying to please everyone, Colibri, a magical hummingbird, tells her about the Monteverde Cloud Forest in faraway Costa Rica, where plants and animals live in harmony. 
 
With Colibri, Loli travels by zip line to Monteverde, where she encounters a Resplendent Quetzal, Mr. Blue Jean Frog, Howler Monkeys, Mama Sloth and even a friendly Tarantula, all living symbiotically amidst beautiful flora and fauna.

The Message of Monteverde reveals itself as Loli comes to the end of her journey and realizes that kindness and compassion are what matter most.   

​​Fun facts of Costa Rica and musical notation for the song are included. Bright, colorful watercolor paintings illustrate the story, bringing it to life.  Within each illustration is hidden a hummingbird, which helps to engage the youngest and eldest of readers!  ​​

Leslie Woods, Author

​​Leslie Woods draws on her love of language, music and international cultures to bring magic to her picture books. Born in her beloved Costa Rica, she spent many childhood summers there on her grandfather's coffee farm, where she acquired the Spanish language. She has also traveled the world in a variety of occupations, including HBO, and the Miss Universe Pageant, as well as being an on-air newscaster/voice-over artist. She also volunteered as a translator for mission trips to Honduras.
 
While her children were young, she taught Kindermusik for fifteen years, and then went on to teach Spanish and French to middle school students for sixteen years.    


​Leslie Woods is now retired, which allows time to pursue her passions of writing, playing guitar, singing in church and practicing yoga. She holds a Masters of Education and is also a newly certified yoga instructor. Leslie especially loves spending time relaxing at home in Connecticut with her grandson, her three grown children and her husband.
